Quito, Ecuador... a mystical land between mountains, hills, valleys and volcanoes with a historical and cultural background that dates back to pre-inca times, was oficially founded by Sebastian de Benalcazar in 1534 (479 yrs), and has been the capital of the Republic of Ecuador since its foundation. It has 2'250,000 inhabitants aprox. and its located 2800 meters above sea level. Its cultural and political influences can be felt deeply in Ecuadorian society.
The Pichincha Volcano its the guardian of the city, its the mountain were the South-american troops led by Sucre threw away the Spanish troops from Ecuador on the battle of 24 of May; a day of celebrations; also de 10 of August is an important date in Ecuadorian history wich is the primer grito de independecia or Independence day and finally the foundation of the city which is where the real celebrations and parties take place...on December 6.
Its cultural, political, religious and natural importance & legacy are still present and can be felt around the whole city but mainly in its Centro Historico (Historical center) and downtown modern Quito.

Night life & party, nature & parks all around, misterious places full of history with everything that a metropolitan city has to offer....QUITO; besides its relative closeness to every part of the country makes it much more interesting; in 4 hours you could be on the beach coast of Esmeraldas or Manabi, and in 5 hours you could be washing your feet on the amazon rivers of Napo or Pastaza.
